Introduction

I took this course at UCI in fall 2004 to learn more about image processing.

Instructor is Professor Meyer course web site is

http://imaging.eng.uci.edu/~jmeyer/COURSES/EECS207A/   which contains lecture notes. (archived here)

See the syllabus here (archived here also)

Instructor

Professor Meyer is the head of the UCI interactive visualization Lab http://imaging.eng.uci.edu/  email jmeyer@uci.edu

Dr Meyer is an expert of this subject and I enjoyed taking this course with him.

Dr Asha Pahwa (gave 2 lectures for us) web site is

HW’s

HW #

HTML

Description

HW1

HTML

Easy problem. Compute Fourier coeff. Of a given function (Implemented in Matlab, Maple and Mathematica)

HW2

HTML

Computer the DCT of a block of pixels. Then the IDCT. Generate Huffman code for a string and look at amount of compression achieved.

Implemented using Mathematica

HW3

these are some notes.

HW4

HTML

Apply marr edge detection algorithm (also called zero crossing, or the Laplacian of Gaussian edge detector) on 2 different types of images (one with more details, and another with more noise) and observe and comment on the results.

Next, Apply the canny algorithm on same images and comments on the differences between the two algorithms

HW5

Initial outline [ PDF , HTML ]

Final report.[  PDF  ,  HTML ]

Code:

1.      Mathematica notebook..

2.      Mathematica notebook in HTML format

How to detect a specific color and specific shape.

Final Project

Image restoration using the direct inversion method, see my main notes area

MIDTERM  EXAM

I scored 88.71% in midterm. The first 2 questions I found hard, maybe I did not read them carefully.

 NOTES

1.     Some notes I’ve written in PDF, in HTML  , in JPG

2.     DCT table  This is Mathematica note book to generate these.

3.     Some other notebook playing around. In HTML
